Week 3 – Sidewalk Advocates
I wanted to start off by saying how much I appreciate those who check the online calendar or respond to my pleas to fill in upcoming vigil hours in need of prayer coverage. I’m always humbled by the many deeply pro-life people in the tri-state area who sacrifice their time and convenience (cold weather anyone?) to stand in the public right-of-way to bring attention to the destruction of life taking place on Auburn Avenue.
As we’ve been told before by Abby Johnson and Shawn Carney, when people are praying there, up to 75% of clients change their minds and make the decision not to abort their babies. We probably will never know this side of heaven who those people are, but we walk by faith and sometimes we are given the consolation of knowing our presence and prayers have made a difference.
On the other hand, there are those who come to the sidewalk specifically to speak to women and encourage them to choose life for their babies. Some of them have been faithfully doing so for years and years. They can tell you stories of babies that they know have been saved because the mothers and fathers have told them so. They don’t tout their successes, but if you are at Planned Parenthood when they are present, tell them you are praying for blessings on them and their quiet, loving work.
Next week, how a new group of advocates have started joining them on the sidewalk.
NOTE: Midpoint Prayer Vigil Hour – March 8 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Join us for this group hour of prayer and be encouraged to continue your weekly public prayer witness here in front of Planned Parenthood and finish the second half of the campaign strong! If you have not been able to sign up for prayer hours because of daily commitments, this is your chance to join others in prayer outside of our regular 7am to 7pm prayer times. For this event only there is no sign up necessary. It is one of the few opportunities during the campaign when we can gather as one to pray for all of the intentions of the campaign.
Closing Prayer Hour of Thanksgiving – March 24, Palm Sunday from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Details TBA
Known churches and group affiliations of our participants – Please let me know if your affiliation is not listed, whether you come to pray as an individual or with a group.
