Two Years After Overturning of Roe, Pro-Lifers Still Celebrate
On Monday, we honor the two-year anniversary of the overturning of Roe. Twenty-four months later, the dust still has not settled from this historic Supreme Court decision. In fact there now seems to be a dust-storm. We know this all too well in Ohio with the crushing defeat of Issue 1 in November of 2023.
But as we reflect on where we are in history, let’s remember the words of an important pro-life legal scholar, O. Carter Snead, written after the US Supreme Court June 24, 2022 decision, “By my lights, Roe and its progeny have been very bad for America. By virtue of those precedents, the Supreme Court imposed on the nation an extreme, one-size fits all regulatory regime for abortion of its own invention, without any justification in the text, history or tradition of the Constitution.” The full article is well worth the read as a reminder of why it was so important to overturn this egregious law.
With the second anniversary of this historic occasion, CNA shared: “Since the Dobbs ruling, the pro-life movement has suffered several defeats at the ballot box and in the courts. Initiatives protecting the “right to abortion” passed in California, Vermont, Michigan, and Ohio. There are currently four states with abortion on the ballot in 2024, as well as an additional nine states considering ballot measures pertaining to the issue.
In addition to these legislative setbacks, the Biden administration has aggressively targeted pro-life advocates for peacefully protesting and blockading the inside of abortion clinics. Several of these individuals, including elderly women, have recently been sentenced to years in prison for violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act.”
Not all politicians are running from the issue of protecting life. This week before such an important anniversary for the sanctity of the preborn, we thank Republican Florida Sen. Marco Rubio for introducing a resolution on Tuesday to celebrate the anniversary of when the U.S. Supreme Court’s conservative majority overturned Roe v. Wade. “This ruling made it clear there is no constitutional right to take the life of an unborn child and returned authority over abortion to the American people and their elected representatives,” Rubio said in a statement.
Seventeen other Senators signed onto the resolution:
- Tommy Tuberville (Ala.)
- James Lankford (Okla.)
- Ted Budd (N.C.)
- Roger Wicker (Miss.)
- Cindy Hyde-Smith (Miss.)
- Markwayne Mullin (Okla.)
- Jim Risch (Idaho)
- Pete Ricketts (Neb.)
- Steve Daines (Mont.)
- Katie Britt (Ala.)
- Josh Hawley (Mo.)
- Deb Fischer (Neb.)
- Todd Young (Ind.)
- Mike Lee (Utah)
- Cynthia Lummis (Wyo.)
- John Barrasso (Wyo.)
- Roger Marshall (Kan.)
While we commemorate the victory of the overruling of Roe v. Wade, we continue the fight for the unborn amid setbacks and the pro-aborts aggressive efforts to dismantle safeguards and protections for women and babies.
Even with attacks, setbacks, and losses, it is not an option to abandon our defense of life. We are in the single most important human rights battle in recent history and Cincinnati Right to Life takes its role in this battle seriously.
Our organization was founded by giants who relied completely on the Lord when they began their important mission. We remain full of prayer, completely determined and steadfast in this battle for the protection of life in this “Post-Roe Season.” Cincinnati Right to Life is blessed to have your prayers and partnership in the work ahead.
