Weekly Update – Week Three

Above and Beyond, Number of Workers, Challenge & Midpoint

I tell people all the time that we have wonderful, generous pro-life people in the tri-state area. We are blessed with stalwart prayer warriors who year after year commit to coming to the sidewalk to be the hands and feet of Christ. They publicly witness to the callousness of our laws towards the preborn and the devastation that brings to their families. This is thanks in large part to our church respect life coordinators, many of whom have continued for years reaching out to their veterans pray-ers as well as encouraging new participation.

God bless also the individuals who come to pray on their own or with prayer partners. Some have expressed their desire to get their churches involved also. Say a prayer that their church leadership will eventually encourage and support congregational participation.

It’s also so heartening and humbling when parish leaders who make a commitment to sign up volunteers see that as their parish day approaches there will be coverage gaps so they go above and beyond by filling in a second prayer hour or more. You know who you are and so does God!

As I’ve prayed during the early daytime coverage hours (7-8am or 8-9am), I have been astonished at the number of workers who drive or walk in to Planned Parenthood. One day I counted 17 workers walk in the gates (not enough parking space in their lot for them) and 16 cars. If we could get our priests and pastors to come just once at these hours to witness this, I think it might convict them of the need to encourage their parishioners to join us on the sidewalk.

At our Kick-Off we challenged everyone, those at the site and those who couldn’t make it, to “step up our prayer effort” by praying with a more focused intention, or fasting to strengthen our prayers or perhaps calling on a Saint to intercede. So for this update, we’re tossing out two ideas:

1) So, since it is the month of the Rosary have you added an emphasis on it?

2) USCCB has a beautiful prayer to “St. Joseph, Defender of Life”! Might you add it to your daily meditation and prayer time?

A Prayer to St. Joseph, Defender of Life – Dearest St. Joseph, at the word of an angel, you lovingly took Mary into your home. As God’s humble servant, you guided the Holy Family on the road to Bethlehem, welcomed Jesus as your own son in the shelter of a manger, and fled far from your homeland for the safety of both Mother and Child. We praise God that as their faithful protector, you never hesitated to sacrifice for those entrusted to you. May your example inspire us also to welcome, cherish, and safeguard God’s most precious gift of life. Help us to faithfully commit ourselves to the service and defense of human life —especially where it is vulnerable or threatened. Obtain for us the grace to do the will of God in all things. Amen.

But we’re also asking, how have you challenged yourself to enhance your prayers for the unborn? We’d love to hear from you! so please if you’re answering our challenge tell us what effort have you added? We’d love to hear from you whether is walking at PP or praying from home! Please email me! Have a blest and challenging week (in a good way)!

Tonight – Friday, October 10, from 7 to 8pm at Planned Parenthood, we will hold a group prayer hour designated as the Midpoint Prayer Hour. We will be praying for the continued success of the campaign as we close in on Day 20. We thank God for allowing us to be His hands and feet in bringing about a Culture of Life in our area, state and country.
