Columbus, OH — Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has just announced the nomination of Amy Acton, MD, MPH as the Director of the Ohio Department of Health. Dr. Acton is a physician specializing in Preventive Medicine and Global Public Health. She has been serving as the Community Research and Grants Management Officer at the Columbus Foundation where she worked with businesses across central Ohio on issues related to women’s health, infant mortality, addiction, and more. Prior to that, she worked as Assistant Professor at The Ohio State University College of Public Health. She has a breadth of experience in everything from government to education to healthcare policy and advocacy. Dr. Acton lives in Bexley with her husband, and together they have six grown children.
Dr. Acton commented that she approaches health in a holistic way and will concentrate on infant mortality, youth homelessness, and more. When asked about her views on abortion, Dr. Acton said, “I don’t have a stance on abortion. I am definitely here to follow the law – the law of the state of Ohio.”
Right to Life Action Coalition of Ohio is pleased that Governor DeWine has placed this very important position into the hands of a qualified physician with excellent experience on a number of medical fronts that will help to provide Ohioans with a Health Department that provides strong leadership.
