Public Hearing Tonight – Tuesday June 14th
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, June 14, 2016 (Cincinnati, OH) – Columbus City Council has introduced legislation that criminalizes pro-life speech at abortion facilities city-wide by creating buffer zones around abortion facilities, abortionists, and abortion workers.
Under the ordinance peaceful pro-life sidewalk counselors and witnesses could be charged with a first-degree misdemeanor for “harassment” or “following” a person within 15 feet of an abortion center, though what “harassment” and “follow” refer to is undefined. This would stifle not only sidewalk counseling, but also rallies, 40 Days for Life campaigns, and other pro-life efforts.
“All citizens have the right to peacefully express opinion in the public arena whether accepted or not,” said Paula Westwood, Executive Director, Right to Life of Greater Cincinnati. “This ordinance seeks to unconstitutionally silence the pro-life social justice message to support a pro-abortion agenda.”
Columbus City Council is expected to vote on the ordinance on June 20th.
Pro-life citizens are asked to attend the public hearing for the ordinance tonight Tuesday, June 14th, 5:30 pm at the Neighborhood Policing Center, 950 E Main St. Columbus, OH.
