Governor Kasich Expected to Sign
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, February 10, 2016 (Cincinnati, OH): Today, the Ohio House of Representatives passed House Bill 294 to block abortionists in Ohio from qualifying for five funding programs administered by the Ohio Department of Health. The bill redirects state-administered grants–approximately $1.3 million last year–away from Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers. The bipartisan bill was sponsored by Representatives Margaret Conditt (Butler County) and Bill Patmon (Cleveland). The Ohio Senate approved the legislation in January. The bill now goes to Governor John Kasich, who is expected to sign it into law.
“Any funding diverted from abortion providers confirms the fact that abortion is not legitimate healthcare deserving of our tax dollars,” noted Paula Westwood, Executive Director of Right to Life of Greater Cincinnati. “This bill is a solid step towards ending all funding to abortionists, including Medicaid.”
ABC News reports that earlier today, “Planned Parenthood supporters delivered handwritten valentines to state lawmakers in an effort to urge representatives to oppose the bill. They also gave condoms and pamphlets about the organization’s services.”
