To End Tax Funds to Abortionists
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, October 21, 2015 (Cincinnati, OH): The Columbus Dispatch reports:
“The Senate bill to defund Planned Parenthood passed today by a 23-10 vote after more than 20 people from across the state provided testimony both for and against the legislation.
The bill would redirect public funds away from organizations that perform or promote abortions in the state, namely Planned Parenthood. In the last fiscal year, the state gave $3.7 million to Planned Parenthood. But taking out Medicaid reimbursements, the total was $1.3 million….” [Read full story.]
Barry Sheets, Legislative Consultant for Cincinnati Right to Life, said in testimony today before the Ohio Senate Government Oversight and Reform Committee, “This legislation is in keeping with the intent of the declared policy of the state of Ohio to prefer childbirth over abortion.” “The measure seeks to ensure that public tax dollars, whether in the form of direct state dollars, or pass-through Federal grant funding, are not expended to perform or promote abortion.” The bill was voted out of committee and released for full Senate vote the same day. It now goes to the Ohio House of Representatives for review and vote. Earlier this summer the Ohio House introduced its own bill to end tax funding to abortionists.
