Decisive Action Requested
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, August 24, 2015 (Cincinnati, OH): A coalition of Ohio-based pro-life organizations today delivered a letter to Governor John Kasich calling for executive action to direct state agencies to cease distributing all state and federal taxpayer funding to abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood affiliates.
This request from nearly two-dozen pro-life groups to-date comes after exposure of Planned Parenthood officials’ disturbing and potentially criminal activity documented in videos released by the Center for Medical Progress’ “Human Capital” investigative journalism project.
The CMP videos indicate that this taxpayer-supported abortion chain may be violating state and federal laws. Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine has launched an investigation of Ohio’s Planned Parenthood affiliates as a result of this information.
“Planned Parenthood affiliates in Ohio received over $1.3 million in state taxpayer funds alone in fiscal year 2014,” said Paula Westwood, Executive Director, Right to Life of Greater Cincinnati.
“Governor Kasich’s decisive action to defund Planned Parenthood would disprove media reports indicating that protecting defenseless unborn human beings is not a primary focus for his administration.”
This past Saturday, thousands of pro-life citizens stood in protest outside Planned Parenthood facilities in over 300 locations in 47 states, as well as in several countries internationally. Rallies with crowds of Ohio citizens were conducted in 11 locations across the state.
“Planned Parenthood is not needed for women’s health care,” said Westwood. “All of its non-abortion health services are widely available from many community health centers.”
