For Immediate Release, June 25, 2015 (Columbus, Ohio) – Ohio ProLife Action is pleased to report that the final recommended budget for the State of Ohio came out of the conference committee with the inclusion of a 30-mile radius transfer provision that must be in place for abortion providers.
“In cases of emergency, at the very least, women deserve to have a hospital nearby to which they can be quickly transferred for emergency medical attention, ” said Linda Theis, President of Ohio ProLife Action.
The proposed budget also has a provision setting a time limit for the acquisition of a variance for operation of an abortion facility. Presently some are operating in Ohio without one.
“We were pleased to work with Rep. Niraj Antani and Senator Peggy Lehner to shape the language of these amendments,” stated Barry Sheets, legislative Liaison for OPLA. “After a number of meetings with interested parties, we were grateful to see the language returned as part of the conference report.”
