March 1, 2013 – Medicaid provides funding to organizations that provide so-called “family planning” services for the underprivileged.
States have some say in what services are funded, unless they take part in Medicaid expansion under President Obama’s health law–then they lose that option.
According to The Hill, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Mandate will govern Medicaid funding distribution in participating states.
The Ohio General Assembly will be voting soon on Governor Kasich’s plan to participate in federal Medicaid expansion.
Thus Ohio will be required to completely cover contraceptives, abortion-inducing drugs, and sterilizations (many already covered in Ohio – see below) plus anything else the federal government might decide to add (surgical abortions for any reason likely).

Currently in Ohio, Medicaid covers abortion in cases of rape or incest or life endangerment. (Medicaid covers abortion on demand in 15 other states.)

ACTION: Contact your legislators to oppose Medicaid expansion of contraceptives, abortion-inducing drugs, and sterilizations for the underprivileged.
