Contact Congress to Ensure Conscience Protections
February 26, 2013 – Cincinnati Right to Life is part of a national coalition opposing the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Mandate, which orders organizations and businesses to cover contraceptives, abortion inducing drugs, and sterilizations regardless of their religious or moral convictions. [See recent coverage in The Catholic Beat.]
Also note that according to The Hill, “… HHS clarified that the mandate doesn’t apply to people who are eligible for Medicaid but live in states that don’t take part in the law’s Medicaid expansion.”
Thus because Ohio will take part in Medicaid expansion under President Obama’s health plan, the HHS mandate will also apply to Medicaid recipients in Ohio – i.e., required to completely cover contraceptives, abortion-inducing drugs, and sterilizations (many already covered in Ohio) – raising suspicion of furthering population control among the underprivileged.
MESSAGE FROM CALL TO CONSCIENCE COALITION
The time to take action to restore religious liberty and protect freedom of conscience is now.
President Obama’s administration has launched an assault against religious liberty and conscience by forcing organizations and businesses to pay for coverage of abortion-inducing drugs, regardless of their moral objections.
We must fight back, and the time to act is now!
Congress will soon be considering must-pass legislation that will fund the federal government, and it is critical that conscience protections are included in this legislation.
We must take a stand to ensure that all Americans are guaranteed freedom of conscience in their daily lives and work.
The government has no business putting religious freedom on the negotiating table, or picking and choosing who is allowed to exercise their faith.
We must fight back, and we must fight back right now.
