December 9, 2009 - Tuesday, December 8th, the U.S. Senate voted 54-45 to kill the amendment proposed by Senators Ben Nelson and Orrin Hatch to eliminate federal funding of abortion in the Senate version of healthcare legislation (see LifeNews.com article listing vote breakdown).
The Senate version also does not include conscience protections for healthcare workers who do not want to participate in abortion or other immoral practices; does not prohibit federal funding for assisted suicide; raises taxes on special needs children and their families; and will cut Medicare by nearly $500 billion and raise cost of healthcare for all citizens.
Even if you have already contacted your Senators on healthcare, please call or email your U.S. Senators today to vote against "cloture" - 202/224-3121.
Cloture will cut off floor debate and force the bill as it now stands to the Senate floor.
Only 60 votes are needed to pass cloture.
If cloture passes, this pro-abortion bill only needs a simple majority to pass.
Predictions are that the vote on cloture will occur this Saturday.
Contact your Senators with this message:
"Vote NO on cloture and against any healthcare bill that does not include AT MINIMUM restrictions against federally funded abortion plus any healthcare measures that do not protect human beings from conception to natural death."
If you are unsure who your legislator is, check www.senate.gov or contact your local offices for the political parties.
